About The Olde Bell
Located in the picturesque Berkshire hamlet of Hurley, only an hour's drive from Central London, The Olde Bell is a new breed of coaching inn. Providing eating, drinking and lodgings, the emphasis is on traditional English hospitality with a modern flavour in an elegant pared down setting.
Reputed to be the oldest inn in England - parts of the building date back to 1135 – The Olde Bell is all nooks, crannies and crooked floors. It is a truly unique location, whatever the season. In the warmer months, local ales and hog roast from the summer kitchen can be enjoyed in the huge meadow garden; in the winter, the open fires provide a welcome respite from the cold. Part of the philosophy lies in food and environment being essential and inseparable companions and as such, eating and drinking play a major part in the inn. The restaurant with its open fire, exposed wooden beams and contemporary English furnishings takes pride of place. The menus, created by Executive Head Chef and co-author of The Kitchen Revolution Rosie Sykes, change daily but are characterised by delicious and filling home cooking such as Seven Hour Shoulder of Lamb and Potato Gratin and Sticky Toffee Pudding and Butterscotch Sauce.
The Olde Bell prides itself on using local suppliers for its food, and at the bar, Olde Bell visitors can enjoy a pint of the local Rebellion ale, a traditional lemonade or an elderflower fizz.
Simple, modern and comfortable, the Olde Bell's rooms retain the quintessentially English feel of the inn as a whole, with chunky furniture, Jakob's wool blankets, oak floorboards and pale wattle-and-daubed walls. Bathrooms are fitted with drench showers in the Inn Doubles and elegant claw-foot baths (as well as showers) in the Inn Suites.
